The first time I went to Italy was on a trip with my husband and parents.  On that trip, we drove through five countries.  It was all exciting and breathtaking!  In Italy, we saw the diversity between the countryside and the cities, as well as the differences in the various areas.  Of course, we saw the usual tourist attractions.  I could hardly imagine that I would see the places that I had read about in books when I was young.  I fell in love with the beauty of the countryside, the historic sites, the food, and the friendliness of the people.  I loved the sound of the Italian language; it was so musical!

I did not like that I could not read menus and street signs, or understand anything I heard spoken.  So, when I came home, I began to study Italian with a computer program.  Later, I took some community education classes.  And then, I learned about the Italian Club of Salt Lake, and began to take classes in the friendly atmosphere of the coffee shop.

I have so enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and friendly instructors.  I especially have been thankful for being able to hear native speakers so I can work on proper pronunciation.  I am comfortable to be in classes with people who share my love of travel and of all things Italian!

I have been to several European countries, but I must admit a special love for Italy.  I have been to Italy twice more since that initial visit, and I look forward to my next trip.  I have thrown my coins into the Fontana da Trevi, so it will happen!
