Italian Club of Salt Lake Director

Giuliana Marple joined the ICSL as a teacher in 2008. Her enthusiasm for teaching has carried over to her leadership of the club. In describing her goals, she says, “I love to see a piece of my Bel Paese in Salt Lake City, a place where people can get a sense of Italy, read Italian books, watch Italian movies, eat together and share inspiring stories”.

Giuliana holds a Master’s in Foreign Language Teaching from the University of Utah where she teaches Italian and Italian Civilization. Her favorite period in Italian history is the “Risorgimento”.

Events Director

Wayne Leavitt graduated from mere Italian food enthusiast to bonafide Italophile in 2001 when he made the first of many trips to Italy. Since 2004 he has taught Italian at various institutions including Brigham Young University, the University of Pittsburgh, New York University, and currently the University of Utah. Aside from teaching, his short list of Italian-related passions include dialectology, Renaissance theater, cinema, children’s literature (for his two daughters), and most recently, opera. Wayne oversees the the organization of the events the Italian Club of Salt Lake hosts for students and the community each year.

Beatriz Perrotti is from Brazil and her family immigrated from Italy. She always had a special love for Italian culture as her family passed down Italian traditions through generations. She moved to United States in 2014 to start a new chapter in her life with her husband. In 2014 she graduated from Universidade de São Paulo (Brazil) with an Elementary Education degree and had worked in schools. Now she is a full-time mom of a beautiful daughter. She loves to spend time with family and friends, cook and, travel.

Felipe Perrotti is originally from Brazil and his genealogy goes back to Italy. In 2013 he moved to United States to study and follow his career passion. He is a Finance student at the David Eccles School of Business and is taking Italian classes. He enjoys cooking and baking, especially  homemade pizza.

Dallas Stanley, Italian Club of Salt Lake, Technician


Dallas Stanley is from Kamas, UT. He’s currently a student enrolled in classes at the University of Utah. He is a return LDS missionary from the Rome, Italy Mission. He loves everything about Italian food, culture, and people. His favorite places in Italy are Napoli and Catania. Dallas is excited to join the Italian Club of Salt Lake and bring the joy he felt in Italy to the people of the greater Salt Lake Valley.

Keeton Alder, Italian Club of Salt Lake, Web technician


Keeton Alder is from Salt Lake City and is a recent graduate of the University of Utah. He has been studying Strategic Communications and Italian. In 2015 he returned from a LDS mission in Milan, Italy. Sense living in Italy Keeton hasn’t been able to forget the dolce vita and all of the wonders that it brings. When asked what his favorite part of Italy is, he immediately talks about the people and their ability to enjoy life.

Azzurra Cuchel is from Palermo, Italy. In 2004 she received her degree in “Lingue moderne per il Web” (Modern languages for the web).  She later moved to Tuscany with her family where she taught computer science. In 2016 Azzurra moved to the United States in order to improve her English and start her American adventure with her husband and young daughter. She loves traveling and at the same time, she remains connected to her motherland and her cultural roots. One of her many passions is cooking Italian regional food, Sicilian to be exact!

Laura Marone is from Napoli,  where she worked as a pastry chef and cake designer in her small catering company. She moved to the States in 2005,  trained with international cake decorators and earned an associate degree in Culinary Arts in St.Louis, Missouri She also completed her Bachelor degree at the University of Utah and is enrolled in the M.A. Languages and Literature program with an emphasis in Spanish. She taught Culinary Arts for 9 years at St. Louis Community College, Salt Lake Community College and Art Institute, and is now teaching Spanish at the University of Utah. She also works at the Salt Lake City Library downtown. She loves traveling, reading, cooking and photographing landscapes.

Heather Coates Hamblin is a graduate of the University of Utah, having studied English and Italian. An insatiable explorer, she has traveled extensively internationally and domestically.  Professionally, Heather works as a Strategy Writer for University of Utah Health. She has also worked as a freelance writer for publications like The Culture Trip (London), and Outdoor Sports Guide Magazine (Utah).

When she isn’t writing or studying, you can find Heather cooking, doing yoga, or exploring the hiking trails and ski runs in her native state…and sneaking away to Italy whenever she gets the chance. Heather has been co-teaching the Beginning Italian I class since August of 2015.

Italian Club of Salt Lake, Taylor, Teacher


Taylor Hahn recently graduated from the University of Utah, David Eccles School of Business, with a Marketing B.A., and an Italian Minor. She took three years of Italian language and literature at the University of Utah and was able to enjoy her first international adventure through a study abroad program in Siena, Italy. She loves the diversity, history, and fascinating places that Italy has to offer and is excited to help promote its presence in Salt Lake as the club’s secretary and as a co-teacher for the Beginning Italian I class.

Daniel, Italian Teacher, Salt Lake City


Daniel Meza Rincon was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. He’s lived in the beautiful state of Utah since he was 11. He has always had a passion for education and languages.  He graduated from the University of Utah in 2012 with a Business Administration degree, an International Studies minor, Italian Minor, and TESOL Certificate.  He taught English and Spanish for three months in the small town of Montecosaro Scalo in Italy. His passion for the Italian language and language teaching/learning has motivated him to join our Italian Club.  He loves to travel, learn from other cultures, and hike whenever time permits. Daniel teaches Beginning Italian II and Intermediate Italian I.

Gaetana, Italian Teacher, Italian Club of Salt Lake


Gaetana Cummaudo has a M.A. in Linguistics. She’s taught at BYU and is currently teaching at SLCC. She’s had various experiences as a translator, interpreter and in voice recording. She is a true Italian proud of her homeland flavors, culture and language. Her passions are dance, the environment, and natural healing. Gaetana Teaches Intermediate Italian II.
